Every year Rotary District 5050 hosts an annual fundraiser for our fellow Rotarian golfers. This year, they didn’t know what hit them when Fidalgo Island Rotary put together and sponsored a Dream Team of Five-Star Athletes (pictured from left to right) Barry Harter, Dan Conrardy, Steve “Rutzy”, and Kurt "Hole-In-One" Nelson. These four basically had their own theme song as they strutted onto The Homestead Golf and Country Club in slow-mo thinking “We got this!” Little did they know...

...The Anacortes Noon Club also brought their A-Game, accompanied by Charles Yousling (Fun Club Member). The morning started with a light drizzle with the clouds scattering and clearing by mid-day. Each team started out really good and under par. With these two teams neck-and-neck, hole-for-hole, birdie-for-birdie; 18 holes to the finish seemed long and tiring; and each shot needing to be better than the last the pressure was on. Barry as always, kept his cool and stayed focused with a 32' foot birdie. "That's not unusual..." was the theme for the day as Rutz and Conrardy also strategizing every shot.

In the end, Fidalgo Island Rotary shot 18 holes under par with Rotary Club of Chilliwack taking the trophy and all bragging rights with 21 under par. That doesn't mean we came home empty handed, we left with great memories, stronger friendships and lots of laughs. Next year, we will be back, stronger and looser than ever! Did you know?
